Definitions & Methodology
Liquid Assets for FIRE
The bank accounts and portfolios marked as Liquid Asset for FIRE.
FIRE Number
25× buffered annual spending, based on a fixed 4% withdrawal rate.
Implied Spending
Opening cash + salary + recurring and one-time inflows − Amount Invested − closing cash. Never below 0. The first completed month is a snapshot. The first two completed months are gated on reports and do not set the FIRE number.
A $0 implied month
Usually means cash became investments (for example a bonus invested the next month). The report still shows 0. That month is skipped when averaging spend for the FIRE number, so a lump invest cannot print “Reached FIRE.”
Spending & investing average
One setting, N months. FIRE number uses the last N positive implied-spend months. Keep-investing uses the last N Amount Invested months after month 1, and $0 invest months count as 0.
